Newfoundland music is a very unique, and very enjoyable to listen to.
Be it traditional, or modern day.
(although a lot of modern day are traditional re-makes)
Here you'll find links and examples of both

Rant & Roar
(Trad. Arr. Great Big Sea)
Lead vocal: Alan Doyle Top

Chorus:
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Newfoundlanders
We'll rant and we'll roar on deck and below
Until we strikes bottom inside the two sunkers
When straight through the channel to Toslow we'll go
I'm a son of a sea cook, I'm a cook and a trader
I can dance, I can sing, I can reef the main boom
I can handle a jigger, I cuts a fine figure
Whenever I gets in a boat's standing room

Chorus

Farewell and adieu to ye young maids of Valen,
Oderin and Presque, Fox Hole and Bruley
I'm bound for the westward to the wall with the hole in
I can't marry all or it's yokey I'll be

Chorus x 2

Heave Away
Traditional

Come get your duds in order 'cause we're bound across the water
Heave away, me jollies, heave away
Come get your duds in order 'cause we're bound to leave tomorrow
Heave away me jolly boys, we're all bound away

CHORUS:
Sometimes we're bound for Liverpool, Sometimes we're bound for Spain
Heave away, me jollies, heave away
But now we're bound for old St.John's, where all the girls are dancin'
Heave away me jolly boys, we're all bound away

I wrote me love a letter, it was on the Jenny Lynn
Heave away, me jollies, heave away
I wrote me love a letter and I signed it with a ring
Heave away, me jolly boys, we're all bound away

CHORUS

So it's farewell Nancy darlin', 'cause it's now I'm gonna leave ya
Heave away, me jollies, heave away
You promised that you'd marry me, but how you did deceive me
Heave away me jolly boys we're all bound away

CHORUS

The Punters

Prohibition Way
When the Americays were dry
By the laws of old excise
A Yank could find his drink by way of sea
And our schooner often ran
From the banks of Newfoundland The Yankee buyer's plea

Chorus:
So haul, haul up the main
Our schooner's off, she sails again
From Newfoundland bound for Americay
Heave, heave me by's
We're sailing o'er the Yankee tide
Running rum the prohibition way

Weighed down in our hold
Prohibition's liquid gold
To rendezvous off the coast of Maine
Midnight splash of oars
The Yankees buyers now on board
The deal is done
We're headed off again

We're on to Boston Harbour
To pull another feat
And I pray to God
No excise men we meet
I'd rather be drawn and hanged
To lose me schooner grand
And never more to sail the open sea

Now the Boston deal is done
The Yankee buyer's got his rum
Our pockets lined, for Newfoundland we sail
We're loaded for and aft
Enough provisions for to last
The winter by's, again we have prevailed

It's Not About You

I'll pick up what's left of my broken heart.
Pack it out back in the trunk of my car.
And follow the white line 'till I'm feeling fine again.
I'll let the rain drown my sorrows tonight
But when I wake up I'll let the light.
Try to convince me I'm back on my feet again.

Chorus:
It's not about you
I'm finally walking
I'm singing inside
I can't hear you talking
And you can't believe it's true
It's not about you

I'll do what I can not to turn back now
I've come this far and I know somehow
I'll keep on looking 'till I find me again

I'm going to drive all night
Sort through this thing 'till I make it right
You can't believe it
Can't even believe it's true
It's not about you.
